The Downfall of a Tragic Hero

A tragic hero is a person whose tragic flaw, fatal traits or decisions, lead to their downfall. Macbeth and Miley Cyrus are both tragic heroes due to ambition, irrational decisions, and being power hungry.
At the start of each of their lives, they had great success. Macbeth was a respected soldier who defended his country of Scotland, ruled by King Duncan. Miley Cyrus was an extremely successful actress with her own TV show in her early years, as well as a musician. As their lives went on ambition caused their successful lives to take a turn. Macbeth’s ambition was to become King of Scotland. While trying to work towards this goal, he did anything to tear down the people in his way. In Cyrus’ early years, she was well known and had a celebrity life. As she got older, the use of drugs and alcohol, created her nasty reputation. So, their ambitious actions slowly and surely led to their downfalls.
As an ambition started taking over, irrational decisions came along with it. Macbeth’s main goal was to become king and irrational decisions like killing people was something he thought he had to do to get there. An example of this is, “Always remember that I must be free from suspicion. For the plan to work perfectly, you must kill both Banquo and his son, Fleance, who keeps him company” (Shakespeare Act 3:1). His irrational decision making caused him to kill, even while he knew it was wrong. Cyrus’ irrational decisions led to her substance abuse in her early years, “It is no secret that I was into partying in my teens and early 20's. I have not only smoked, but advocated for weed, I’ve experimented with drugs, my biggest song to date is about dancing on molly and snorting lines in the bathroom," (Stone 2019). In all, irrational decision making was something that they thought they needed to do to get to their goals.
Their greed for power was the main goal in the end. Macbeth aimed to become king of Scotland. Miley Cyrus had an ambition to become a popular and well known musician. They both pushed their fame and limits, resulting in a downfall of their lives. In the end, greed for power took over their morals.
In conclusion Macbeth and Miley Cyrus are both tragic heroes due to ambition, irrational decisions, and being power hungry. Miley Cyrus and Macbeth had a very similar way of thinking. They made impulsive decisions and did not think their actions through before performing them. They had high peaks that were positive before their tragedies struck them. They started out as loved heros, yet their tragic flaws changed them to evil.
